As an innovative genre, the interactive documentary combines text, photos, videos, sounds and is produced for webcast.
Thanks to the interactivity, the spectator can organize himself his exploration in the heart of a subject. Rather than trying to convince him, we want to stimulate his imagination. This stems from the fact that the world of video games has had a major influence on interactive documentary. We want to move towards new modes of writing, playful and participatory, to promote the appropriation of information. It injects entertainment into topics that are often complex or too serious.
CMW, an international partnership :
For the 6th year in a row, students in Master 2 Web Cultures and Professions at Paris-Est-Marne-La-Vallée University are producing an interactive documentary in partnership with Dong-Eui University in Busan, South Korea.
This documentary is our graduation project and deals with different aspects of Korean culture every year, thanks to an innovative and immersive format. Urbanism, adoption, Japanese colonization or Korean dramas are some topics discussed in our work.
These focused on the traces of the past in the present, in other words on the presence of Korea history today in South Korea. These documentaries are the first in a series that will last several years and will cover all periods of Korean history and all their wealth. This is an opportunity for us to immerse ourselves in Korean culture…and carry you with us !
Program :
Our projects start as soon as we enter M2. During the first semester, some courses prepare us to film, to understand the interactive documentary and especially to define our subjects and plan our tasks. From the second semester, we have the opportunity to start filming some shots of our documentaries in France, thanks to the equipment lent by the university (cameras, microphones, softwares,…). Korean students come to France at the beginning of the year and provide valuable help in our research. After their passage, we keep in touch with them to prepare our trip and fly to Korea peacefully. In May, we take off for three weeks in South Korea where we film most of our work, supported by French and Korean teachers who mostly help us for technique and translation. The bulk of the work will remain editorial, will start in Korea but will end in France. At the end, we will present our project in front of a jury then in front of the future M2, envious to start their own projects…
